Kean University is a member of Tuition Exchange. Tuition Exchange is a consortium of over 600 higher education institutions offering scholarship opportunities to the dependent children of eligible full-time employees of Kean University. Eligible employees are defined in Kean’s Tuition Exchange Guidelines.
Tuition Exchange scholarships are not guaranteed; they are competitive awards for which students must apply. This opportunity is limited to full-time undergraduate study for up to eight consecutive semesters (fall and spring) up to age 23. Interested employees are encouraged to read a quick overview and the scholarship award process.
Eligible dependent children must complete the on-line application for a Tuition Exchange scholarship and must apply for admission to a member school(s). It is the decision of the school to which the dependent child has applied to grant a Tuition Exchange scholarship.
As a member school, Kean University has a reciprocal agreement to grant scholarships to eligible children of employees from other member schools. Information about Kean’s participation can be found on Kean’s admissions page.
Member schools appoint Tuition Exchange Liaison Officers (TELO), who are responsible for confirming the eligibility of employees and dependents. The TELO for Kean employees is Yrelys Tapanes, ytapanes@kean.edu, Associate Director HR, Benefits.
Timing for Tuition Exchange program applications
The application process begins each fall for students entering higher education the following fall semester. It is important that applicants verify admission and Tuition Exchange scholarship application deadlines with the member schools of interest. Interested students should seek out the Import TELO at the member school(s) with questions and to receive specific information. Import TELOs of member schools can be found on each school’s individual page on the Tuition Exchange site. Additional requirements from member school can include the FAFSA annually, maintaining minimum grade point average, being enrolled fulltime, and living on campus.

For admissions in Fall 2023, it is recommended that Kean employees submit their dependent child application(s) for consideration to the tuition exchange scholarship program at the same time that the dependent child submits their application(s) for admission to the TE member import school, and financial aid.
To apply for the Tuition Exchange Scholarship Program, eligible Kean University employees may visit the Tuition Exchange site and click on Apply Now. The site also provides valuable information on the scholarship program, helpful questions with answers, and a guide to completing the EZ application.
You are encouraged to submit your Tuition Exchange Scholarship Program applications no later than January 1, 2023.
Dollar Value of TE Scholarships
Scholarships may cover full tuition, one-half tuition for a non-resident at a public institution, or a rate set by Tuition Exchange. They do not include special fees, course overloads, or room and board charges. For 2022-23, institutions that charge more than $40,000 for tuition are permitted to award less than their full tuition but not less than the set $40,000. The TE award can be made up of federal or state grants and institutional funds. Institutional funds can include academic, athletic, and need or merit grants.
It is important for the family to ask questions of your Admissions Counselor for the best understanding of your financial aid award package. Additionally, it is your responsibility to ask the value of the TE award from the Import TE Liaison Officer at the school the child plans to attend.

The number of awards granted is determined by each member school to which the student is applying and among other factors, may be dependent on available funds. Each member school will make independent decisions on granting scholarships, the amount of the scholarship awards and other applicable criteria.
